The Backyard Garden Program

The stats tell the story of the impact of a single organization, ADO Bahamas.

Launched in January 2022, ADO Bahamas has helped build food security through

  • 2500+ backyard farms
  • 100+ Hours for volunteer mentors assisting with planting and monitoring
  • 200+ Hours for Min of Agriculture field officers for planting and monitoring
  • 23      Farms at schools in New Providence, Grand Bahama, Abaco & Eleuthera
  • 6        Community farms, together capable of harvesting produce to help feed thousands

ADO Bahamas began with an ambitious goal of helping to create 10,000 backyard farms.

Working with a network of established churches under the auspices of the Church Commercial Farming Group, ADO brought new drive and supplies to a project that had started with the best of intentions several years before.

Here is what Pastor Pat Paul, former President of the Bahamas Christian Council and current president of the Church Commercial Farming Group, says:

Two and a half years ago we set a goal of 5,000 backyard kits, until Philip Smith came along, we were moving at about 5 mph, he came along and we took off like a race making 75 mph…’

The partnership helped kickstart the campaign.

ADO has been an amazing partner – Pastor Pat Paul, former President of Bahamas Christian Council and since 2005, the National Superintendent of The Assemblies of God in The Bahamas including the Turks & Caicos Islands
